This wheel kit is easy to install. The instructions are clear and simple. The parts are well-made, as is the Generac

generator on which I installed the kit. The seller was extremely prompt in shipment, with the kit arriving prior to the

promised date. The only recommendation I would make for the product is that the handle be a hinged model, similar

to the handle which comes installed on the 3500 Generac generator. As is, the fixed handle takes up an extra 2 feet of

storage area. For this reason, I didn't permanently mount the handle. There is a "fancier" wheel kit available, but the

extra cost hardly seems worthwhile for the little difference. I would highly recommend this kit to anyone with a Generac

generator. It certainly beats carrying it around!!

Customer Review: 10" or 12"......Help me out here!!!

The title describes the wheels as being 10", but in the product description they claim to be 12". We ordered this for a

Genrac 4000XL Generator. With a little welding and soldering, my husband managed to make it fit properly. The

wheels sure beat dragging that thing around. We would have been a lot happier had the description accurately

described the product!!

Customer Review: Super Bargains Now breaks the law!!!

My purchase from Super Bargain Now was a horrible experience. I recommend that Amazon should quit their

affiliation with them immediately. Super Bargains Now advertised a price on their web page and I bought the product.

They then refunded my money and said the price was no good. I will never do business with Super Bargains Now or

Amazon ever again. I do not see how a company can advertise a price and not back it up. It was blatant false

advertising.

Customer Review: Great for the Whole House, Not for Electronics

I am very happy with this generator, but I would not recommend using it for electronic equipment (computers, TV's,

etc), as it is not very stable, especially under large loads.

I ran a test to see what it could handle, below is a

description of the items I turned on, and the order in which they were enabled. I connected this generator up to my

whole house using a 200 amp manual transfer switch, which was professionally installed by an electrician. The transfer

switch has a watt-ometer on it, so I can estimate how much wattage I am using.

1) 100 Gallon Hot Water

Heater: ~4800 watts. (I opened all the hot water taps to make sure that the heater was running.)

2) 3 ton air

conditioner (Trane XL19i) ~3600 watts (Set temperature to 65F to ensure that both compressors were working)

/>3) 2 refrigerators. ~800 watts each. (set the temperature to the coldest setting on both of them to make sure

they were running)

4) 20" TV. ~300 watts

5) PC w/ 2x21" monitors ~300 watts total

6)

Washing Machine ~500 watts (put a load in for the spin cycle)

7) Dishwasher ~500 watts

8)

Pool Pump ~500 watts

So far all of the above was running at the same time, and everything was fine

except the backup battery alarms on the TV and the PC were sounding. It seems the power was not stable enough for

those devices, so I turned them off.

I kept everything else running, and I was determined to overload the

generator to see if it would shut off as described in the manual. So, I proceeded to turn on some more large and

medium appliances.

I ran out of appliances and large items that I could turn on. All of the above was

running at the same time, which of course is not a typical household scenario. I was very impressed.

My

electrician told me that electrical devices all have exaggerated wattage ratings, so you cannot simply look at the back

of device and determine how much wattage it will use. This is why my numbers add up to way more than 15,000 watts.

In addition, the rating on a generator is the minimum it can handle, so it is possible that the generator could be

producing slightly over 15,000 watts, depending on quality of fuel and other factors. Regardless, this test proves that

the generator can handle your whole household without a problem, just keep your electronic devices plugged into a

more stable generator.

It is quite loud. It sounds like a Harley running at 3500 rpm. Much louder than my

3000 watt generator, and louder than my 2300 psi pressure cleaner. The smell of the exhaust is very strong as well, so

keep ventilation at a maximum. Don't place it next to any bushes as the bush will die from the heat and carbon

monoxide (I know this from my own experience ;-)

On a separate test, I ran the generator for an extended

time period to see how much fuel it uses. I plugged it into my house and ran a more limited set of appliances which

would represent a typical day. The fuel consumption was about 1 gallon per hour, so keep this in mind when storing

fuel for something like a hurricane. I purchased a fuel storage tank which can hold 120 gallons with a pump on it, and I

can also keep 17 more gallons in the generator itself. Of course there is the risk of all this fuel going stale very quickly,

so I only purchase it when I see a hurricane coming. If I never need it, I just use it for my cars.

I have owned one of these units for 2 years now and have had to use it maybe 2 or 3 times; each time the unit starts

right away and works without issues. We are on a private well system with an electric pump, so without power we are

out of water (or would be, without this unit). I can run all the lights, TVs, computers, and water heater along with the

microwave or oven, so between that and our woodstove we're well equipped for outages. Generac makes their own

engines, so if you ever need parts, its one stop shopping for maintenance. Highly recommended!

This thing is a monster. Runs my entire house. I have a well pump, septic, and Furnace. Didn't even 1\2 load this thing.

Best generator I have used. Comes with the 60A panel box and the outside plug box. I hooked up most of my 2 story

house to this thing and it works like a champ. For all this includes you can't beat the price and quality.

I purchased this generator too use with our travel trailer to recharge the batteries and run the airconditioner. It works

well and starts very easy. Only negative is that it has a higher noise level than some of the more costly units.

generator looks like the smaller KGE3500Ti but is bigger all around. You can start the engine like starting a car with

the electric start. It is brand new in box and in stock ready to ship by freight service. This generator has the 50 AMP (fit

most large motorhomes with adapter) and 30 AMP (120V) twist lock receptacle as well as two standard 20 Amp

(120V) receptacles. It also has a 12V DC output (charging cord included). 2 years warranty, we have a repair center

and stock most of the parts.

Customer Review: Kipor Work Horse - Good Customer Service

I've owned my Kipor 6000 watt generator for over a year now and have used it extensively 5 times running over 100

hours each of the 5 uses. Its not perfect. It is hard to start even after running for hours. I'm sure its a carb setting, but I

haven't taken it in to be serviced. I use it to power my 5th wheel RV (with 50 amp service and two 15k ac units) at the

NASCAR races. In the summer months, it runs from the time we arrive, until we leave; with the exception of refueling.

Its a work horse. The only time we throw a generator breaker is when the wife forgets to turn an AC off

prior to using the microwave. Let me talk about Kipor customer service. I've had two chances to contact Kipor

customer service. Both times they were very helpful and supportive. All four original wheels had to be replaced the

first 6 months or so. The generator was just too heavy for the original wheels and the bearings and tread separated

from the wheel. Second time, the gas gauge stopped working and the lens fogged up to where the needle could not

be seen. In both instances, they quickly shipped replacement parts. I like this generator.

This cover is NOT heavy duty vinyl as advertized. It is a weave, breathable, lightweight blend of some sort. It offers no

rain protection. I tried "Scotchgaurding" mine but it didn't make a noticeable difference. It fits well though and should

keep the sun away from the parts. I was expecting something a little more heavy duty that offered protection from all

of the elements.

Customer Review: Great Generator, Problems with Starting It

A great generator for the jobsite and home use. My order arrived on time and generator set up was fast and easy.

But after putting the generator together, I could not get it started. After checking all the trouble shooting suggestions

on the Briggs and Stratton website, I called customer service...they finally suggested I take it to one of their authorized

dealers (15 miles away). The problem: the delivery company tilted the generator/container on it's side during delivery,

oil from the engine dripped into the air filter stopping air flow. No air flow, no start. A simple fix once identified. Cost:

a new air filter and time away from the job. Briggs and Stratton: Great website, customer service and product.

Customer Review: Dead Generator - Dead Customer Service

I purchased my generator from Home Depot on 13 April. I had a licensed electrician install a manual transfer switch.

On 8 June, we had our first power outage. The generator started up immediately and ran for 10 minutes and then shut

down. On restart, it ran for 5 minutes and shut down. After about an hour of this we decided to just weather the 96

degree heat with no electricity.

The next morning, I called Briggs & Stratton and followed their voice

prompts which gave me the name of a local "Briggs & Stratton authorized warranty repair facility". I loaded this

monstrous machine into my SUV and drove it over to the designated facility. About an hour later, I received a call that

the "authorized Briggs & Stratton warranty repair facility" could not do the work because the Briggs & Stratton

generator had a Generac motor on it. Another trip to pick up the generator and then called Briggs & Stratton back.

After 1 1/2 hours of listening to how important my call was and that my called would be answered by the next available

customer service rep, I called Home Depot from my cellphone who was willing to issue a refund even though the

generator was more than 30 days old.

I give this Briggs & Stratton 8000 watt generator a 1 only because 0

was not an option. I would give Home Depot a 10.

Customer Review: Missing a part and leaks fuel

I purchased this on Dec 14, 2008.

I received it on Dec 19.

Shipping was good.

I assembled the unit on

Dec 20.

Assembly went fine and is straight forward for anyone with a mild mechanical sense.

The Unit is

suppose to have a dip stick to check the oil, but it is missing.

Also, when I put fuel in the unit and turn on the gas

valve, the valve leaks - not alot but enough to be a fire hazzard - leaks onto the engine housing.

I called the

number in the instructions for assemble and I was sent to voice mail and was asked to leave my number and a tech

would call me.

So I left a message with a brief discription of my problem and my phone number. I am yet to hear

from any one.

Also - A genral complain about Amazon.com !

I had placed the order for the generator,

and a short time after I was informed of the possibility of missing parts and not being able to get customer service

from Generac. I called Amazon.com to cancel the order, and even though it was only about 40 minutes since I place

the order, then claim they could not cancel it.

AND - the price has been lowered by over $50 since I purchased it

a week ago!

Customer Review: A Well Built Unit

This generator is a quality unit. The engine is a V-twin Vanguard with full pressure lubrication and an oil filter like a car

has. The Vanguard is the top engine in Briggs and Stratton's line and easily compares to the V-twin Honda engines.

The generator is a solid unit with idle control and auto voltage regulation (AVR). The twin handles are solid and fold

down when not needed. It is not as loud as some cheaper units. However, it can easily be heard. The unit has both a

recoil starter and an electric starter. With reasonable care and routine maintenance (engine oil, oil filter and air filter

changes), this unit should last for many years.

As with any unit of this type the new user must be aware of

certain points. Gasoline will grow stale in a month. Stabil, a fuel stabilizer additive, will only extend the life of the gas to

a maximum of 1 year. While the oil itself does not wear out, it contains additives to prevent corrosion and oxidation.

These are depleted in operation of the unit. Regular oil and filter changes are important. Once the unit has been put

into operation, the initial oil should be changed after 5 to 8 hours. Briggs and Stratton recommends a full synthetic oil

be used such as Castrol Syntec 10w30. If the unit is to be stored for an indefinite period of time, months, years, then

some other procedures should be done. They are not hard, but take some time. In order: With the engine warm, shut it

off and drain the oil; wipe off the drain plug and thread it carefully back onto the engine; screw it finger tight and then

using the appropriate wrench tighten it about 1/8th of turn further; Unscrew the old filter; Use your finger to spread

some new oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter; use a lint free rag to wipe off the mating surface on the engine

where the filter will be screwed onto the nipple; screw the new filter onto the engine. When its gasket makes contact,

turn it approximately 1/2 turn more; now put clean oil into the engine; wipe up any spillage and do not over fill; turn the

idle control to "on" and start the engine; let it run for about a minute while looking for any leaks; there is a fuel shut-off

lever under the gas tank just behind the control panel. It is very easy to reach facing the control panel, turn the lever off,

after a minute or two the engine will start to hesitate as it is beginning to run out of fuel; when it starts to hesitate, pull

out the choke lever; when the engine stops, it has used all of the gas in the line and its carburetor; under the fuel shut

off lever is small bowl shaped metal fitting designed to collect any debris; remove it with a small wrench turning it

counter-clockwise as you would look up at it from below; place a container or funnel under it and open the fuel lever.

This should be done when the gas tank is nearly empty and the unit is cool; when the gas is drained, re-attach the

sediment cup, as the bowl shaped metal fitting is called. Tighten it finger tight. Then use the wrench to turn it about

1/16th of an inch more - Do not over-tighten!! You're almost done. Pour about two ounces of Stabil into the now empty

tank. Some of this will go down the fuel inlet hose to the carburetor, close the fuel shut off valve. Recheck the oil level

on the dipstick. Add more carefully if needed. If the unit has less than 25 hours on it, it is now ready to be stored. If it

has more, then you need to replace the air cleaner. It has clips and is fairly obvious, just that there is not much room to

work, so easy does it. While a personal preference, I lift the wheels off of the floor and support the frame on two by

fours. When completely cooled, cover the unit and it now stored. I do not leave the small float charger connected. Every

four months or so, connect it for a day and then disconnect it again. When you need emergency power, uncover the

unit, check the tire pressures, take it off of the supports and wheel it outside. Pour fresh gasoline into it. Turn the idle

control to "on", pull out the choke and press the "start" button. When it starts, push in the choke and let it run for several

minutes before plugging anything into it. You are set to go. Note that the instructions state that when starting turn the

idle control "off". I do not like this as the cold engine goes to full throttle immediately. This is not the way I treat my truck.

It is far kinder to run the engine slower letting the oil circulate to all parts and at least achieve some warmth before

going to full throttle. The engine runs fast enough in the idle mode.

I did have a problem with my unit. On all

of these sites where generators and other gasoline powered equipment are advertised there is a disclaimer that the

unit cannot be returned. The reason has to do with any gasoline or gasoline vapors remaining in a unit which would be

returned. While one always looks for the best price, the fact that it cannot be returned will give me pause in the future

considering such an item. Amazon was very helpful and made a substantial "good faith" adjustment for me which they

did out of the goodness of their heart. This is why I continue to buy from Amazon. They really do care. However, I had

to take the generator to an authorized service center. It was gone for twenty days. I had to take time from work and use

my truck and gas. Briggs and Stratton was an easy company to deal with on this matter. The problem was that the idle

control circuit was wired incorrectly and the idle was mis-adjusted. It burned out a control board. All of this was

covered by the warranty and the generator runs like the new unit that it is. The technician told me that this type of fault

is extremely rare. However, had I bought it from Home Depot, for example, I would have returned it to them and gotten

another the same day. The upside is that I saved many hundreds of dollars. The downside is as I described above.

You decide.

This is an excellent unit and I am happy with it and Amazon's response to my problem.

Customer Review: Comments from an Experienced User

I have one of these machines that I had to rely on for six and a half days after Hurricane Ike slammed the Houston area.

The machine ran O.K. except for some minor problems that had major implications: One of the flimsy little clips that

are used to hold the oil lines onto the engine (lines from the engine to the oil cooler) came loose and caused a major

oil leak. Fortunately, by that time, our local hardware store had re-opened, so I was able to purchase a traditional hose

clamp (for about 39 cents) to repair it.

Then, and day or two later, the unit began to have trouble pulling the

load. To make a long story short, I finally figured out that the engine had to be starving for air. So, I checked the air

cleaner element and sure enough, it was coated with oil. I went to the local Generac dealer, and they said this problem

had to be caused by over filling the engine with oil. I told them that I had been concerned about that, but the problem

was that the engine dipstick is very hard to read (apparently) because of the design of the dipstick tube. (When you

remove the dipstick, the sides of the dipstick are covered with oil that it picks up from the tube. The dealer admitted

that this was indeed a problem and recommended just letting the unit run until the low oil pressure switch shuts the unit

down. (Not a good option especially if it shuts down in the middle of the night.)

I notified Generac of the problem

and received a very nice e-mail reply from them, but I have no idea if these problems have been resolved with the

newer version of this unit.

I still think the dipstick on this engine could very likely be mismarked, but I will

have to refill the engine more precisely and re-check the dipstick reading to prove it. I won't get around to doing that

until this coming spring.

After much research ,i decided on this model because of the commercial engine with pressurized lubrication ,which,

according to experts,should have 2 to 3 times the life of regular splash lube units. I like to buy something only once,

and will pay for quality. ive only ran the unit for 8 hours, to break it in under ideal conditions ,and changed the oil.

Customer Review: Great value and a "must" for Florida

After moving to central Florida earlier this year we were hit with an unprecedented four hurricanes in a row (Charlie,

Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne). The first three resulted in power outages of nearly a week after each. After suffering from

heat and humidity with no air conditioning, and losing the contents of our refrigerator each time, we decided to get a

generator as soon as one was available for sale (there were none to be had in the state for over a month after the first

two hurricanes!)

This unit was easy to set up and operate. It starts on the first try each time, and produces

sufficient power to keep a small air conditioner, a refrigerator and a few lights going. It also effortlessly powers a

microwave and coffee maker (although not simultaneously).

The ground fault interrupt protection is a great

safety feature, and the start-up surge output will protect any appliances you have plugged in on initial starting. It runs

steady with a constant, clean supply of power, although it is noisy. The noise is a small price to pay when you are

without power for six straight days.

A few things you need to know about this (or any generator): make

sure it is well away from any vents or other areas in your living space, else you could suffer carbon monoxide

poisioning. Also, make sure you are using heavy duty, outside-rated power cables. Do not cut corners here - I use

Coleman 12/3 gauge contractor grade extension cords (ASIN B0000225BS), which are rated at 20 amps and have

an abrasion-resistant outside. The heavy duty plug on this particular cord makes a solid, water proof connection to the

electrical outlets on the generator. This is an assurance and safety feature if you are using this device in the weather

associated with a hurricane. The 20 amp rating of the cord I recommend matches the rating of the generator's outlets.

Another nice feature is the 240 volt outlet. It is handy for using a dryer when you are without power and

dirty clothes are piling up. If you use this outlet I recommend using the GenTran 25 foot generator cord (ASIN

B0001Q2VL4) that is rated at 30 amps and 7500 watts, and designed to transmit up to 300 volts.

Overall,

this generator is solid, 100 percent reliable, and heavy duty. It can run constantly for over a week with no problems,

and is fairly economical on gas. Expect to fill it every 6-10 hours.

Being only minimally eletrical, I installed this unit with ease. My only problem was the reach of the supplied PBX, but I

safely worked around that. Last summer I used the generator with extension cords for power outages - a real pain

compared to the transfer station. This fall, when the low has been 8?, I sleep a bit better knowing that I have easy

backup power. I gave my kerosene heaters to my son.

Customer Review: I'm Ready For The 2006 Hurricane Season

I have only tested the unit using a very light load but it seems to work very well. The auto idle feature kicks in instantly

when a load is presented. The unit does have a tendancy to idle up & down slightly when no load is present but runs

smoothly when a given a load. It is very quiet when running (compared to other 5kw generators). I am converting my

unit to run tri-fuel ($397 extra from USCarbs.com) since this thing can guzzle gas like an SUV at full load and after

Katrina hit, gasoline was being rationed out at $20 a visit. With a 16 gallon tank $20 will only fill it to half a tank. I also

opted to interface my generator with a manual transfer switch which allows me a little more flexability than the

automatic transfer switch and cheaper installation. There's several electrical outlets and wiring options on the

generator panel. I don't give the unit 5 stars since a true Gaurdian phone customer service/tech support doesn't seem

to exist. If it needs service you must contact an authorized Generac/Gaurdian dealer in your area for service and

99.9% of the time if you did not buy the unit from them they are reluctant to help. At best you may opt to have an

authorized dealer install your transfer switch which may obligate them to help you if your generator requires servicing.

Customer Review: Good unit for the money

This is a pretty decent unit for the money. The only problem I've had is that the starter went out just after the warranty

expired. The starters are EXPENSIVE but I think I'll probably find one online somewhere for a much better price than

what Guardian is asking. Otherwise, this is a good generator. I have some electrical experience and was able to

install it myself. If you aren't experienced though, it would probably be best to have it professionally installed.

The starter motor failed within the first 6 months. The installer did not correctly diagnose the problem, and Generac

was of no help. It was only after I found a post on the Internet about this problem that I was able to get the generator

fixed. Generac "played dumb" not acknowledging that

they had many problems with the starter and finally

replaced it with an improved unit. The cabinet is now rusting out, even though I waxed it annually and sprayed the

interior with WD-40 several times a year. The generator is very loud and fuel consumption is high.

It is not possible to ship a lead acid battery in a ready to use condition. The acid can spill and is very hazardous.

Would you feel better if it had a battery but you had to take the battery to a service center to get the acid put in?

The only problem is that the information should be better. There should be a bold label stating the lack of a battery

and why and also a list of various batteries that can be used. A garden tractor battery would most likely do fine and

they are about 20 dollars and widely available .

Customer Review: Icing Carb - Do Not Buy This Generator

CHARLOTTE, NC: Just experienced the worst ice storm of my life in Charlotte, NC. Five days later and still no

power. I bought the last Generac generator from Home Depot the day after the ice storm hit, and I was requried to

sign a no return policy. The generator ran for 3 hours and then quit at 11:00 pm., not to run again that night. When I

tried to return it the next day, I was told by Home Depot that was not possible. They had 50 generators returned the

next day for repair. They tried to blame it on 'owner error', but the truth is that Generac has poorly designed the

generator for cold weather. In cold and damp conditions (winter basically), the air intake pulls in cold, moist air which

freezes after 1 hour or so, eventually choking out the carbeurator. It thaws within an hour after stopping, and then it will

run for another 45 minutes or so (maybe). The air intake needs to come off of the exhaust manifold like most good

models that are more expensive. This engine is built by Briggs and Straton, and is sold under Generac and Porter

Cable (perhaps others too). Do not waste your money like I have, and do not sign a no return policy from anywhere.

Home Depot knows this problem exists and won't do the right thing by taking returns for defective merchandise. They

told me that Generac advised them to tell their customers to cut a hole in the shipping box, and put the box over the

generator while running. While this seemed like a fire hazzard to me, I was desperate for heat and tried it. I did and it

did not work either. Shame on Home Depot and Generac - they have just lost a customer for life.

Customer Review: Lack of Customer Support from Generac

I purchased one of these through Amazon just over a year ago. It recently failed, although it has not been worked

hard.

I am a professionally qualified electrical engineer and it did not take me long to diagnose that two small units,

the regulator and the main control board had failed. I contacted the Generac help line which offers: "Set Up

Instructions, Service Call Help, and General Use Information" I asked whether I could obtain the required parts and

was told all that I could do would be to return the complete generator to them or an authorised service centre! I live in

the Caribbean and explained that shipping this back to the US Mainland would be extremely expensive, especially as

the parts I required were very small and not expensive. Nice as the help line people were, I could get no help from

them at all, under warranty or not.

I then contacted several service centres in Florida who needed the complete

generator returned for any repair work, warranty or not. Finally I found a service centre who were willing to help me by

supplying the parts that I needed. I have just received the parts and I now have a fully working generator again,

repaired for a modest cost, as oppposed to shipping the entire, very heavy generator to the nearest service centre at

some ridiculous cost.

They were extremely

helpful and ordered and shipped the not particularly costly parts for me. Shipping didn't cost a lot as the package

weighed less than a pound! If you need some help I can thoroughly recommend them and they have a website under

I am extremely disappointed with the support from Generac, and total lack of help or

ability to supply parts themselves or through some of the agents recommended by them. If you are considering

purchasing one of these units, make sure that you find out how to get repairs effected without shipping the very heavy

unit around. Although the generator section has a two year warranty, I could not use that as I am not near a recognised

service centre, and have had to pay for the entire repair costs. Be warned!

Customer Review: A $6500 Watt Quality Product for the Home

I purchased one of these units in December of 1999, yes, I was motivated by the Y2K scare but living in the country I

needed one anyway and this justified the purchase. I have experienced other generators in this price class and size in

open frames and this is the quiestest and smoothest running. I start it every few months and all it takes is to open the

fuel valve, turn on the choke and pull once! It comes to life and purrs...well not that quietly. I have yet to find any

generator that is not enclosed in this size/price that is quiet but this is the best. The automate idle works fine but the

idle is still a fast one and I would be interested to find out how much fuel is really preserved by auto-idle. But it does

idle until you put a load on it...even a light bulb! It comes with a nice cord kit and the wheel set is a plus if you plan to

move it without dragging. The fuel gauge rattles and could use some sort of damping. The tank will sweat fuel out the

lid if it real full and you move it out into the hot sun. Even after running this machine for over 20 hours over 12 months I

find it still looks new...including the muffler! Comes with the battery charger kit.

I suspect the engine is really a

private labled Honda.

I looked at everything and this is a high quality product for the price.

Customer Review: GUARDIAN BAD CHOICE FOR GENERATOR

7,000 watt Guardian Generator professionally installed! Failed to come on at intervals. Serviceman come and

company instructed serviceman to check ground wire to metal. Serviceman scraped paint from metal and

reconnected it. Tested it, started OK. Next interval start failed after 3 tries. Called service and have been advised

that the next visit they would install next fix. Parts are on order. Trouble light said that the unit overcranked. This unit

was purchased for emergency service. Are we being paid to test it. Serviceman stated that Guardian sells millions of

these units, and company doesn't care about quality. They fix things as they need to. Another thing, if there is a

brownout, you must manually turn off solenoid that connects - disconnects electrical service or the solenoid will burn

out. Contacted several area technicians, until found a authorized dealer.

Customer Review: Glad to have this generator, but...

I purchased this generator from a local dealer without the standard transfer switch (instead I upgraded to a 100A

whole house switch so I did not have to pick the circuits to be on the generator). Overall, it works great, but my only

complaint is that it seems to have a hard time maintaining a steady voltage, which results in my UPS's (on my

computers) to cycle wildly on and off as the voltage goes back and forth from 126 to 120 VAC. The dealer (and

Generac) indicate that this is 'normal' (as the specs promise a +- 5VAC), but the dealer is going to try to make some

adjustments.

From what have read, some of the 'better' UPS's can handle this fluctuation better, but I

thought people should be aware of this before purchasing any generator for their house where sensitive electronics

exist.

Customer Review: First Year's experience

Purchased this unit about a year ago from Amazon for uses around my house like deck and siding cleaning. I had

previously had a less powerful unit that made cleaning the deck take too long. Why not top power given that you can

turn the power down on a top unit but have power limits on smaller power units? Of course this comes with a price and

the unit is larger than smaller units so some storage issues. The 13 hp Honda engine is large for a pull start.

However, after some early on start problems, it now seems to start quite easily sometimes on first or second pull.

Make sure the fuel is fresh and that all of the unit's setting are in the correct position before trying to start. Unit is very

powerful and the multiple spray head attachments give you lots of options for different spray widths. The long spray

hose is very thick and difficult to get back on the back holder. However, given its length, I can wash my entire deck

without actually placing the unit on the deck. Attachments are generally slip-ons and are convenient to use. Gas tank

is large and will run the unit for several hours. Negative is price in that this unit is double the price of units advertised

to be up to 3,000 psi. Of course none of those less powerful units have a 13 hp engines.

Customer Review: Operates exactly as advertised

Bought it at Home Depot, for considerably less money. Don't know if they still handle them. Made by Generac. Comes

with transfer switch and everything you need to use it. So far, has worked flawlessly. Within seconds of shutting off the

electricity the generator is up and running and it automatically shoulders the load. When I turn the power back on it

transfers the load, runs for a few more seconds in case the power fails again and then shuts down. It runs once a week

for 10-15 minutes to keep the cobwebs out and the battery is automatically kept charged.

I use it at my

vineyard in California's Anderson Valley. It supplies power to the main house through the transfer switch and also has

240 & 120 volt outlets for use with an extension cord.

This is Generac/Guardians smallest unit. Both Home

Depot and my electrician thought it would be too small, but I am kind of an energy freak, with CFL bulbs, Fujitsu high

efficiency heat and A/C air pumps, EER 20, COF 11, and propane stove, Oven, Dryer, etc., When we installed it the

electrician had me turn on all available electrical stuff in order to overload the generator and learn the drill for using it

manually.

I turned the Fujitsus up to 86*, turned on the bathroom heater, two bedroom heaters, the

microwave and an iron, but it wouldn't shut down. The electrician, who was measuring the load said that it would

eventually shut down, but the switch was a "slow blow" setup. The voltage did drop and it would have harmed things

like the tv eventually.

In any event I will never have all that stuff on together again, and it is clear that this

generator will easily handle any normal load, including the Fujitsu heat pumps.

All bets are off on this small

generator if you have electric hot water heating, and/or an electric heating system.

According to the

specifications this unit uses around a half a gallon of propane per hour under a moderate load. Since it is hooked up

to the residential propane tank I could withstand a very lengthy power failure.

The case is substantial and

weather proof. It is the same as the larger capacity units. The only difference is the engine and generator head are

smaller, and, incidentally more fuel efficient. The rest is the same as the larger units.

Anyway, I am quite

pleased. In the past I would drag the portable generator over to the house, get it running, and run extension cords for

the reefer and freezer. Now I don't do anything. Home Depot was selling the unit for $1,800, less another $200 if you

opened a credit account with them. I did that and haven't used the card since. The electrician cost $300 and I had to

run a gas line to the generator (did that myself).

As you can tell I am quite pleased and my wife is dying to

have a party the next time the power goes off in the valley.

Customer Review: generator mountain necessity

We live at 8300 feet in the Colorado Rockies. Although power failures are infrequent, they tend to be lengthy. As we

are on an electrically powered well, no power means no water as well as no heat.

We have had the generator

for 2 years and have used it for two lengthy periods, both over 24 hours.

It has performed flawlessly with an

abundance of power for the whole household including the 4000W well startup. It is well interference protected as well

as surge protected so we can use our delicate electronic equipment without concern.

Maintanance is

simple and easy, the trickle charger keeps the battery at full charge and it starts easily regardless of temperature. A

excellent piece of equipment in all regards.

Awesome generator for the price compared to the competition. Comes with ALMOST everything you need. Didn't

come with a 50amp plug. Although to Briggs' credit, they include 3 plugs (20a/120v,20a/240v,30a/240v), wheel kit,

cover, spare oil filter, spare 2qts oil, spare spark plugs and even a spare air filter w/ prefilter! Unit cranks and runs like

a dream. Comes w/ 2yr consumer warranty. Only issue I had with it was it did NOT have an hour meter, but an easy fix

for ~$30. I panel-mounted one I got from auto parts store (see picture). Have had no problems with auto-idle control as

previous reviewers.

Customer Review: Running now powering my entire house AWSOME

My powers out after a bad electrical storm, power company should fix it sometime this week, what they said. After

sitting in my garage for 2 years it started on the first pull (after numerous pulls with the power switch OFF). The power

switch is in a bad spot, hidden way under the gas tank. You can't see it unless you get down on your knees and look

for it. I have it plugged into my dryer plug powering my whole house. My 2 year old watching the 55" projection TV, my

son playing the Wii on another TV, 2 refrigerators, water heater, pool filter, this PC and wife on the phone all day. I

turned on my A/C unit and it blew the generators fuse (everything else turned off). It's gonna be 100 today so there are

fans blowing full blast all day. Last night with a full tank it lasted 8 hours, 3 ceiling fans and one box fan.

I also left

the choke on half way all night by accident. I had a terrible night sleep because of the noise it makes. I don't know

what everyones talking about when they say it's quiet. The only way I could sleep was with ear plugs.

If I had to

buy another generator I would buy this again. Now if I can only get a better muffler for it.

I bought this from Home Depot using a 10% card, this is the one top rated by Consumer Reports, but as usual no

longer manufactured by Generac (Briggs and Stratton now makes it) It started first pull, and I ran a compressor, chop

saw, and battery charger and the voltage never dropped below 113 volts, except on the compressor surge where it

dropped to 109. It is big and bulky, and I would recommend a transfer box if you were going to rely on this, in my case

its a true emergency generator so i can run my tools directly to it.

It is loud, even with the silencer, but no more so

than a large pressure washer.

When we leave Hurricane gulch in a few years look for it on eBay....

I picked this particular generator, in spite of the high price, because it is big enough to power pretty a whole house (1st

star) and is designed to start automatically (2nd star). The local authorized installer could not come for over a month

but others in this area did not want to install because we did not buy from them. It was very frustrating to have a power

failure during freezing weather and the generator was sitting in the backyard not hooked up. It has stopped working a

couple of times already since it was installed and this time we have been trying to get someone to come and fix it for

over a month.

When the storm induced power outage in our neighborhood went into its third day, I finally decided to do something

about it. I bought my Generac 4000EXL at the local Home Depot bacause it looked to me large enough to do what I

needed and it had all the features I was looking for and even more. Now, a couple years later, I know I got both a

good deal and an excellent product. While the unit might be a little small to operate everything in my house, if I

hooked it in that way, it can certainly run everything I need to run to maintain heat, minimal air conditioning and both

light and a TV, when needed, all the things that make waiting for the regular power to come back.

The

electric start feature was something I wanted so that anyone would have no problem using the generator and that has

allowed for almost instant starts, even when the generator hasn't been run for a few months. Keep the tank full with

gasoline containing Stabil and you will always have power available any time you need it.

I haven't hooked

anything to the little generator that it hasn't been able to power and run with ease. When working at the far ends of my

large yard, it is easier to drag out the Generac to run power tools or even my electric leaf blower than it is getting out

long extension cords.

The reliable engine has pressurized lubrication and incorporates a spin-on oil filter

(same size as the one used on many Japanese cars, including the Mazda Miata (and my Yanmar powered John

Deere garden tractor) that allows for long engine life. I use Mobil 1 oil in the engine and change the oil filter and oil

once a year. I expect the Generator set to last as long as I do. Can't ask for more than that.

Customer Review: I wouldn't buy another one.

It's cheap. Pay a little more and get a *real* generator if you plan to use it much. I found it to be noisy and

tempermental. Customer support is nonexistent and service is difficult to find... and you *will* need service.

/>The unit advertises an oil filter; however, make sure yours has one. Some units don't! They bolt a plate over the

mounting point. I was furious! For a couple more dollars, they could have given me a filter! If it doesn't have one, you

must buy an adapter from a Generac dealer and they're proud of them!

Junk !!! Engine ran for about 4 hours. Pulled unit out of box. Filled with oil as per instructions. Started generator.

After about 3-4 hours of light load I heard a huge clank. Stopped generator and pulled the oil plug. Huge metal chunks

came out of the engine. Only plus it has a one year warranty and it is honered at any local repair shop. Still I now own

a junk rebuilt blown engine generator.

Do not buy.

7,000 watt Guardian Generator professionally installed! Failed to come on at intervals. Serviceman come and

company instructed serviceman to check ground wire to metal. Serviceman scraped paint from metal and

reconnected it. Tested it, started OK. Next interval start failed after 3 tries. Called service and have been advised

that the next visit they would install next fix. Parts are on order. Trouble light said that the unit overcranked. This unit

was purchased for emergency service. Are we being paid to test it. Serviceman stated that Guardian sells millions of

these units, and company doesn't care about quality. They fix things as they need to. Another thing, if there is a

brownout, you must manually turn off solenoid that connects - disconnects electrical service or the solenoid will burn

out. Contacted several area technicians, until found a authorized dealer.

Customer Review: Glad to have this generator, but...

I purchased this generator from a local dealer without the standard transfer switch (instead I upgraded to a 100A

whole house switch so I did not have to pick the circuits to be on the generator). Overall, it works great, but my only

complaint is that it seems to have a hard time maintaining a steady voltage, which results in my UPS's (on my

computers) to cycle wildly on and off as the voltage goes back and forth from 126 to 120 VAC. The dealer (and

Generac) indicate that this is 'normal' (as the specs promise a +- 5VAC), but the dealer is going to try to make some

adjustments.

From what have read, some of the 'better' UPS's can handle this fluctuation better, but I

thought people should be aware of this before purchasing any generator for their house where sensitive electronics

exist.

From what have read, some of the 'better' UPS's can handle this fluctuation better, but I

thought people should be aware of this before purchasing any generator for their house where sensitive electronics

exist.

This is a Generac Guardian generator that was originally made for Carrier. They didn't sell very well, and Carrier

unloaded a bunch to a company that relabeled them "watchdog" generators. They do not have the electronic governor

We just got through Hurricane Gustav in Southeast LA. My area lost power for more than 36 hours. My Watchdog

started up within 30 secs of outage and ran straight through the entire time without a hitch ! Running 65% of my 3100

sq ft home. I do not have it hooked to central AC units. But I did run 5 window units throughout, along with lights,

kitchen, TV's, computers, etc, and it ran flawlessly. The only problem with having one of these is that your house gets

to be very popular. I had 3 other families with me throughout the storm. As of today 9/5/08, one is still with me! Their

home is still is without power, and they are very comfortable in mine!
